We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated HVAC & Refrigeration System Design Engineer to join our team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead the design and analysis of HVAC and refrigeration systems for commercial and industrial projects. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, support departmental goals, and interact with clients to provide innovative, energy-efficient, and compliant solutions. The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of experience in HVAC and refrigeration system design with a focus on commercial and industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities:

System Design and Analysis:

  • Lead the design and analysis of HVAC and refrigeration systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications, codes, and regulations.
  • Develop innovative solutions to meet client requirements, optimize system performance, and enhance energy efficiency.
  • Provide detailed system submittals, including mechanical airflow diagrams, sequences of operations, product data selections, calculations, and conceptual design sketches.

Team Support and Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate engineered system designs into broader projects.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and advice on system design specifications, adjusting designs as necessary to meet evolving client needs and site conditions.
  • Participate in project planning sessions, contributing to the development of project scopes, timelines, and budgets.
  • Review project models and drawings to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to design specifications.

Departmental Development:

  • Support the Director of Engineering in strategic initiatives and departmental goals, ensuring alignment with the company’s vision and objectives.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, incorporating them into the design process.
  • Participate in the development of engineering department standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Client Interaction and Project Coordination:

  • Attend project meetings with clients to discuss project scope and requirements.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations to clients to ensure cost-effective and energy-efficient solutions that align with project goals.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the design, analysis, and implementation of HVAC and refrigeration systems, particularly in commercial and industrial applications.
  • Experience with cleanrooms, industrial labs, and/or cold storage is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of various refrigerant types, their properties, and thermodynamics principles in refrigeration systems.
  • Experience with advanced refrigerant technologies such as transcritical CO2 and A2L systems is a plus.
  • Proven experience in client communication and collaboration.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Proficient in using industry-standard design and analysis software, such as AutoCAD and REVIT.
  • Familiar with load calculation and equipment building/selections software.
  • Proficient with MS Teams and Microsoft Office (MS Projects, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of relevant codes and standards such as ASHRAE, SMACNA, AHRI.
  • Familiarity with BIM360 or Procore is a plus.
