In 2014, we have seen very consistent job growth. Small business had led the way in many of the monthly Jobs Reports and Manufacturing has come in very strong as well. Manufacturing in this country at many times in our history has literally been the backbone of our economy.
It’s coming back again but one thing that is getting in the way of even stronger growth is the skilled workforce needed in today’s manufacturing. We have stated this before but it is estimated that over 600,000 manufacturing positions in the U.S. are going unfilled due to an aging workforce and a younger population that does not possess the skills required.
In a Thomas Net Industry survey, 53 percent of companies stated that they plan to add more staff in the coming months. According to the survey, 68 percent of manufacturing companies experienced growth and are expecting even further growth in the coming year.
While many youth have a negative perception of manufacturing, advanced manufacturing as you know can be a great career choice for so many.
As recruiters in Boston, we have read about so many different ways that companies are attracting talent. From having existing staff serve as brand ambassadors, companies putting in place training programs and increasing internships and many others. Of course, using the services like Finish Line Staffing, and reaching out to trade schools and community colleges.
We’d like to know what different tactics your company is using to attract talent.
